Maskulinitas Tafsir dan Relasi Gender dalam Al-Qur’an: Studi atas Hermeneutika Feminis Amina Wadud
Abstract
This article discusses the construction of masculinity in the tradition of interpretation and Amina Wadud's contribution in formulating a gender-equitable reading of the Qur'an. Historically, the activity of interpretation has been dominated by male interpreters who bring their gender experiences and awareness into their interpretations, resulting in a patriarchal bias. As a result, women are often excluded from religious knowledge and marginalized from positions of social equality. Through a tauhid hermeneutic approach, Amina Wadud offers a new paradigm for understanding sacred texts that emphasizes the principles of tauhid, justice, and equality as fundamental values of Islam. She seeks to interpret the Qur'an with a holistic approach that considers historical context, linguistic structure, and women's experiences. In this way, the reading of gender verses in the Qur'an is no longer trapped in a hierarchical male-female dichotomy, but is directed towards strengthening the values of justice and complementarity. This research shows that Wadud's ideas do not merely offer an alternative interpretation, but also open up a new epistemological space in contemporary interpretive studies that are responsive to social issues and gender equality.
