Increasing consumer complaints in Indonesia’s financial services sector reflect persistent disputes in the Islamic life insurance industry. This article examines reciprocal breaches and regulatory compliance in an Islamic life insurance claim dispute adjudicated in Decision No. 508/Pdt.G/2025/PA.JS. It analyzes the court’s legal reasoning and assesses its conformity with Financial Services Authority Regulation No. 22 of 2023 and Financial Services Authority Regulation No. 36 of 2024. Using a qualitative case-study design, the article combines normative and empirical juridical approaches through the examination of court decisions, policy documents, regulations, and interviews with judges and company representatives. Findings show that the court applied corrective justice to address reciprocal breaches committed by both parties, namely the participant’s misrepresentation of income and the insurer’s delay in claim settlement for more than two years. Although the re-underwriting process produced a claim value of IDR 68,571,428, the court awarded compensation of IDR 80,000,000 based on the highest settlement offer accepted by the parties. The dispute resolution process was not fully compliant with regulatory requirements during the pre-litigation stage, although post-judgment payment satisfied the prescribed regulatory timeframe. These findings highlight the need to strengthen regulatory compliance and consumer protection in Islamic life insurance disputes.
